Orange Dream Cookies

Orange Cookies are a perfect fit with Hot Tea and a Wintery Morning!
Complexity Level:  Easy
Orange Dream Cookies
What You Need:
Cookies
1 cup (2 sticks) Butter
1 cup White Granulated Sugar
1 Egg
1 tbsp Orange Extract
Zest of 1 Orange
1 pinch Salt
3 tbsp Cream
3 cups Flour
1 1/2 tsp Baking Powder

Glaze:
1 cup Powdered sugar
1 tsp Cream
1 tsp Orange Extract

We will start by cutting the butter into the flour and baking powder.  To do this, add the flour and baking powder to a bowl, and using a fork or dough cuter, mash the butter into the flour.  Having the small pieces of butter in the dough will make pockets of flakiness when baking. Assure your butter is room temperature.

Next, in a smaller bowl, beat together the egg, sugar, orange extract, salt, zest, and cream.  Slowly fold this into the butter flour.  The dough will appear to be dry. This is ok because the butter is there but not melted, so when it heats up, it flakes the cookies.   This next part sounds crazy but trust me!

Place a long sheet (about 2-3 feet) of plastic wrap down and lightly grease with cooking spray.  Dip your hands into flour, and form a few small balls of the dough, setting each one onto the plastic wrap.  press the balls together so soon they can be a log.  Wrap and roll to form a "slice and bake" type log of cookie dough.  Place onto a baking sheet and let chill for 1 hour or overnight.

After chilling, pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.  Remove the dough from the fridge, and let sit at room temperature for 5 minutes.  Otherwise, when you go to slice, it will crumble.

Tip:  Use a sharp bread knife to slice.  Slice the cookies into desired thickness  homemade slice and bake!).  Bake 8-10 minutes then let cool.  The end pieces I smashed together and pressed with my palms to make a normal shaped cookie.  Leave no dough behind!

Those little flecks of zest are gorgeously scattered throughout the dough!
Once all the cookies are cooled, whisk together the gale ingredients (Adding more powdered sugar if too runny) and brush each cookie.  These will be incredibly soft, because of how backwards the recipe was.

A soft cookie is a god cookie in my book, and anything that tastes like an orange dream is a winner!

I hope you enjoy!  Happy Baking!
